One of the main highlights or flashpoints, if you will, of the game tonight at Fir Park was the decision to award an offside for Jota’s stunning finish from a world-class Kyogo Furuhashi pass from midfield. The goal was up there with anything we’ve done this season and would have been for sure a contender for goal of the month if not the season.

It did look onside when you saw it in the normal run of play, with the Portuguese winger appearing to have timed his run to absolute perfection. But it was not to be as the linesman thought otherwise and decided that the silky playmaker had strayed into an offside position before the pass from his teammate was hit.

After the decision went to VAR, they relayed the message that it was indeed offside and as a result, Jota had to be penalised in the process. It was quite the disappointment as the whole passage of play was exceptional and deserved to stand as our second goal of the game.

The Motherwell TV channel did show the VAR offside line but it wasn’t from a great angle. Now folk have been having their say on Twitter, calling out the VAR team for suspicious looking lines on the Jota goal. There is already a suspicious view of the VAR technology being introduced in Scottish football, heightened further by the ineptitude of the officiating in this country.

Have a look at some of the reaction to that offside call…
