Video: All Smiles as Shane Duffy is back training with Brighton

Shane Duffy is all smiles as he is re-united with his Brighton & Hove Albion teammates today at training. The Irish defender spent the majority of the season on loan at Celtic but after a very promising start, the 29 yer old endured a torrid time as both form and confidence were lost, amid the worst period of results that Celtic had endured in decades.

Yesterday the Brighton manager Graham Potter promised to get Duffy’s game back on track after what happened to him at Celtic.: “He has had a tough time,” Potter admitted, as reported by The Argus. “Sometimes in football things don’t go as you want them to go. Shane has had some tough challenges off the pitch.

“Losing his father just before he went to Celtic was a huge challenge for him, as you can imagine. He has had to deal with a lot.

“He, more than anybody, would have liked it to have worked out better than it did at Celtic but that’s football. From our perspective, he is always welcome here. He has been a fantastic servant to this club, well liked in the dressing room, well-respected.

“It is important now for us to help him, to get him back on his feet, so to speak, and to put him in an environment where he feels secure and enjoying his football. That’s what we will try to do for the next couple of weeks.”

Warm words from the Brighton boss but football is a harsh business and Duffy is unlikely to be part of the Premier League side’s plans for next season.
