Ryan Christie has often become the source of much angst amongst the Celtic support this season owing to the midfielder’s decision to shoot from outside the box. For a player that made his breakthrough due to his intensity running and a knack for scoring, Christie has perhaps struggled from a lack of coaching this year and being given free-rein to shoot on sight.

Bhoys Analytics has compiled a sample of Christie’s shot selection during the season and how it disrupted the build up of Celtic, even hampering better goalscoring opportunities. Christie is one of Celtic’s brightest attacking threats and he may have felt burdened with the weight of the season and misfiring teammates. Although watching the video back, the coaching staff should have told the player to look to pass and not shoot.

Christie’s Celtic contract is reportedly up next January, meaning he is free to sign a pre-contract in the summer. Christie is definitely one that would prosper under a new manager but he may fancy a move to England and follow the example of Stuart Armstrong.
