Martin Compston is a household name in the world of television. The Greenock born actor has starred in popular series’ such as The Great Train Robbery, In Plain Sight and The Nest, whilst he is most famously known for playing the lead role of Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott in the BBC’s record breaking police drama Line of Duty.
Before appearing on screen, Compston was a professional footballer for Greenock Morton and when he wasn’t playing the game, he regularly attended matches as a fan at Celtic Park.
For many people, Celtic is something that we carry with us throughout our lives and Martin Compston is no different in that regard. Indeed, he regularly updates his social media accounts with comments about the club, has indoctrinated his acting colleagues into the Celtic tradition and has even appeared on screen wearing his beloved hoops.
Last night, Compston and Celtic combined once more as Line of Duty won the Returning Drama and Special Recognition prizes during a glitzy ceremony for the National Television Awards at London’s O2 Arena.
Beyond collecting the award and dedicating a speech to the show’s fans, the Scottish celebrity couldn’t help allowing his inner Celtic fan to escape when Simply The Best was performed during Joan Collins’s entrance.
Martin can be spotted sitting down in the front row, gesturing for the production team to cut the music!
Simply The Best is of course an anthem that is played before matches at Ibrox, where Celtic recently fell to a narrow defeat against their arch rivals.
