Video: Celtic captain on Scotland’s unbeaten run in Euros Qualifying

Callum McGregor spoke to the media following Scotland’s fourth game unbeaten in Group A of the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign and revealed it to be a strange affair for all involved. The Celtic captain was of course referring to the 90 minute delay due to rainfall that prevented the match from continuing after the Scots opened the scoring on 8 minutes.

McGregor was the very man who got the goal on the night and it was a delightful low shot into the net from just inside the box, after a John McGinn corner wasn’t cleared properly by the away side. The ref then stopped the game shortly afterwards and both the players and supporters had to endure an agonising wait for the referee to make a decision on whether to resume play or abandon the match.

Thankfully, reason prevailed and the match restarted at around 21.35pm last night, and Scotland set about what they had already started just ten minutes into the Group A encounter and previously in the campaign too. Georgia were definitely fearing the worst and did not want to face this new no-nonsense Scotland team. McGregor praised the mentality of his teammates and the general setup around the national team these days, as well as talking of his delight at getting on the scoresheet.

The Hoops man also pointed to the wealth of experience that Steve Clarke can now call upon at this level for the national side. It’s something we’ve not had for a very long time now and with so many of our players playing in big leagues and with big clubs, the country is only going to reap the rewards of that moving forward as McGregor rightly pointed out.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
