The 1990s were a joyless time for Celtic Football Club. Near liquidation, rarely competing for trophies and smaller crowds were just some of the reasons that few supporters look back on that period with any fondness.
On this day in 1995, that misery appeared set to continue when the Hoops hosted Kilmarnock. A small crowd of 33,000 people witnessed Killie race into a two goal lead – Gordon Marshall dropping a clanger for the visitor’s first. However, the Bhoys roared back with goals from Grant and Thom before half time. A quick fire double, on the hour mark, from Pierre Van Hooijdonk then swung the match in Celtic’s favour.
