Motherwell forward Devante Cole’s shocking challenge of Jeremie Frimpong in the second half of today’s Premiership match at Fir park, which Celtic won by 4-1, resulted in a yellow card from referee Andrew Dallas.
Frimpong managed to play on but limped off shortly afterwards and could be set for a side on the sidelines. Today’s horror challenge resembled the horror lunge by Kilmarnock’s hardman Power earlier in the year down at Rugby Park – and that one too only seemed to merit a yellow.
Incredible decision by Dallas not to give a red card.
Initially I didn't think he had even awarded a foul. pic.twitter.com/LVmfQ6Mjfu— Highland__Paddy (@Highland__paddy) November 8, 2020
If you recall the red card that Ryan Christie was correctly given at Livingston last season and compare that to today horrible challenge on Frimpong you have to wonder how the Motherwell forward escaped with nothing more that a yellow.
The Motherwell bench clearly realised that they had escaped a more appropriate punishment as they quickly substituted Cole.
A wonderful hat-trick from Moi ‘Mobile’ Elyounoussi and a late goal form substitute Olivier Ntcham ensured the points were heading to the East End of Glasgow. But surely questions will be asked about Andrew Dallas’ failure to punish a tackle like that one on Frimpong with a red card.
We could have lost Frimpong for the rest of the season today… disgusting challenge and OK'd by Dallas. Things like that should give us all the motivation we need to ram it down their throats every game.
