Gordon Strachan has delivered an emphatic reaction to the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as Celtic manager. Strachan, who was Celtic manager from 2005-2009, has often been supportive of the club but he was extremely positive when discussing the appointment of the 55-year-old Australian.
Speaking to Talksport, Strachan said that some people are over-reacting after the woeful season last season but that the ‘out of the box’ decision to go after Postecoglou could reap enormous benefits. Eddie Howe had been favourite to takeover as boss from Neil Lennon but Strachan believes that this is his loss and Postecoglou’s gain.
“You’re talking a top manager here.”
“Everyone is overreacting as usual. The league this year will be as strong as ever.”

Strachan, 64, said that he was excited by the appointment of Postecoglou, who he referred to as an exciting manager. Strachan also talks up the quality of the Premiership this season with just one plastic pitch polluting the league. Although it is clear that the biggest sell for Strachan is the Celtic support, whom he speaks about affectionately.
Postecoglou is expected to be announced as Celtic manager within the next few days and hopefully he is a success as the club look to bounce back from last season’s blip.
We know nothing about the guy. He has not had that much success in his career. To be appointed after the season we have just had is very, very risky. The board needed to make an ambitious appointment. Much more ambitious than Eddie Howe or this guy. They needed to spend big on a manager and replacement players to ensure the support are on board. I cannot see more than 35,000 re-newing season books and even if crowds are allowed in the ground will not be full. Dropping any points early in the season will be fatal. They may even be forced to write the season off before Christmas. Or may be forced to sack him early on. Getting battered by them will see a whole scale crisis explode. He has absolutely no room for error and will be learning as he goes. It is far from ideal and, to be honest, has complete disaster written all over it. Could be the shortest appointment in our history. More likely to be a Tony Mowbray than a Wim Jansen.
If people can afford to renew their season books they should do, for to fail to give the club our money is to play into the hands of the new Ibrox club. That is out of the question for me. Supporters support, that’s what we do, so let’s put behind us last season’s blip and give generously to the club, untwist our knickers and lose some of the entitlement. We’re 50 titles ahead of the tribute act and they aint ever catching us. Postecoglou has won things almost everywhere he’s been so with the resources at Celtic he’ll do so again. 52/ 1 – incoming.
Totally agree with you, but living in the states it’s a far cry from Celtic Park. But change the scenario for me and I was in Glasgow, I’d be racing to renew my ticket. I was 6 years old when I first tried on my new celtic strip. And my shirts will go with me when I go to see my maker.
