Celtic’s Mikey Johnston bagged an assist for loan club Vitória Guimarães. The 23-year-old came off the bench and acted quickly to play a pass through for Anderson to equalise. The game ended 2-2 but it was a tidy pass and the player had an impact as his side fought back to seal a point deep into injury time.

Johnston is hoping to use the time away to rack up regular first team football and translate his talent into stats at the other end. This loan move will allow him the freedom to express himself and fight his way back into the picture under Ange. The manager certainly rates Johnston but it seems he is frustrated with his fitness, lack of an end product – two things that this loan move will address.

With Jota, Liel Abada, Daizen Maeda and James Forrest all ahead of Johnston in the first team pecking order his chances of first team action in the new season were always limited; however, he made the switch to Portugal as Celtic also signed another winger, Sead Haksabanovic.
