Celtic exited the League Cup this afternoon at Rugby Park as a number of factors played their part in the loss. Derek McInnes’ team were worthy winners and defended resolutely in their quest for progression to the Quarter Finals. Whilst Celtic were not anywhere near their best, they will feel aggrieved that they were not awarded an injury-time penalty when Sead Haksabanovic was fouled by Lewis Mayo.
There was an outcry from the Celtic players on the pitch and those behind the goal as they pleaded with Alan Muir to point to the spot. Replays indicated that Mayo caught Haksabanovic’s right foot and the expectation was that Don Robertson would tell Muir about this, prompting a check on the monitor at the side of the pitch.
Say what you want but Rangers get this every single day of the week. No debate. Stonewall penalty. pic.twitter.com/vAmvNnePR8

Anywhere else on the pitch, that is a foul. Celtic appear to have been denied a stonewaller. Although, for all that this is a relevant point to raise, Celtic weren’t good enough on the day and failed to create enough openings in the game to earn progression to the next round.
Derek McInnes was moaning about a penalty that he didn’t get back in January earlier this week and that may have been playing a part in the reluctance of Robertson to call for Muir to have a second look.
Did we deserve to win this game…??…No chance…we were poor….However…was their goal off-side ??…Looked like it to me…and I mean the VAR photo…Should we have had a penalty…??…Looked like it to me….Therefore will our Club officially comment on these decisions and register a complaint…??…Probably not..as we accept evey piece of shit that comes our way…Therefore we get what we deserve.
Haha 😂
Ludicrous playing a boy like Holm today.
Why do you say that?
A single sentence without justification doesn’t really say anything.
At least give us a bit to chew on!
I don’t like this theme of “we were guff anyway, so it wouldn’t have made a difference” from some fans…
We were kicked all over that shitty plastic park! The ref was Kilmarnock’s 12th man. It was so blatant!
I’m pretty sure that if we’d overcome all that adversity and managed to put the ball in the net, they’d have found a way using VAR to chop it off… Its shocking the state of Scottish football these days. And the Derrick and the ref having chuckles and pats on the back after the game too shows it too. Craziness.
Got what we deserved today alright. Outplayed & bullied – we knew what to expect yet looked unprepared for it. Rodgers looked like he’d abandoned ‘Angeball’ until near the end of the game but too late by then.
Early days & a sharp lesson which was needed as we’ve been poor since the start of the season.
Have to say though, I don’t see any positive influence that Rodgers has brought to the side so far – it is early days but we’d need to see a lot of improvement … & very quickly.
It obviously works. McInnes complains about a penalty decision last season and of course Muir doesn’t want to offend. That’s why he did it this time. So Muir was warned, the pressure was on him. He does not want to offend the other members. What a pathetic lot.
As you say, Celtic were not at their best, but the laws of the game should apply equally to us. They are usually applied against us.
This was never a penalty! Haksabanavic left his leg in there looking for that! If we had got a penalty against ys for that we’d be fuming mad! Let’s not kid ourselves here!
We were terrible today! Beaten by a more determined team. We were out muscled, out fought, out thought, maybe not out played, but in fairness, we did not deserve any more than we got today. The fact that we didn’t start to play until they scored said everything! We thought we just needed to turn up! Our attitude so far this season is not good. Our body language is questionable at best. The unity that was once a given, is absent. Ralston who was once a brick wall is now an easy full back to get past, and once the extra winger, he now doubles back every time he gets the ball! Taylor, exceptional last season is a lost sheep so far this season, McGregor was AWOL for third game in a row! Maeda hasn’t performed to his usual level, Abada is doing what he always did, plays like he has no direction!
We lost Jota, not a whole damn squad!
left his leg in there looking for that , tell me where he should
put his leg then
That IS Maedas usual level .. awful!
You say it wasn’t…I say it was…My point was…Will our Club raise it for discussion ?…Not a bloody chance…The other mob shout from the rooftops about everything and anything…We play dumb…again.
To be honest, that pic shows that the defender was going for the ball and seems to be getting a touch on it.At the time,I was screaming for a penalty though.
Capt McGregor hasn’t been playing well and no settled midfield.
Centre backs brand new and Kyogo not playing in his poacher position.
I believe Rodgers will have sorted for Rangers game.
Celtic have no devine right to win every domestic trophy each year.
Currently not good enough for a good Euro campaign.
Hail Hail
I believe this should have been a penalty but the biggest mistake by the ref is that the Kilmarnock goal was offside. The VAR check picture proves that. They have chosen though to draw the vertical line at the attackers head and not his shoulder that is about 8” further forward. This was the main turning point and proves that they were determined to allow this goal no matter what.
You nailed it…
