Paulo Bernardo has returned to Benfica pre-season despite talks over a permanent return to Celtic. The midfielder joined the Scottish Champions last summer in a loan deal with an option to buy and teams entered discussions over a deal but there has been no update.

The Official Benfica Instagram account shared a video of Bernardo and his colleagues returning for pre-season action.

Celtic had been looking to negotiate down the option to buy and Benfica appeared to be receptive to this. The rumours online appeared to be that £3.5m would be enough to get the player back to Paradise but the trail went cold after a suggestion about wages.

Celtic are keen on doing a deal for the player, who has been told he is unlikely to have many first team opportunities at Benfica, and will likely make a move in the next few weeks.
