Scott Brown tends to save his goals for the cup competitions these days. It was on this day last year that he smashed home Celtic’s goal of the season against St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup, and the captain bagged a brace against Hibs in the League Cup semi-final not so long ago.
Today, Broony grabbed a poacher’s goal as Ryan Christie swung in a corner, which was helped on by Klimala before the skipper volleyed home in-front of the goalkeeper. The goal, coming just before half time, put Celtic two to the good.
Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Scott Brown described the strike in the following way: “Perfect yardage for me. That’s a couple of them. Damien Duff always says ‘go and anticipate where the ball is going to go’ and lucky enough for me we’ve got a flick on and I’ve managed to anticipate it perfectly.”
It wasn’t just a goal that Broony earned today. Indeed, the ever-present Celtic captain was also awarded the man of the match award for the way he marshaled the midfield in such difficult conditions.
