Celtic resume SPFL duties this Wednesday, when they host Heart Of Midlothian at Celtic Park. Fitting it is then, that a rare highlights video from Celtic v Hearts on 18 November 1972 has been doing the rounds on social media.

The footage, uploaded by WILLIE COLLOW on Youtube, shows all six goals from the enthralling encounter.

This was an excellent game watched by an appreciative crowd in cold conditions. Snow was expected, yet 28,000 fans braved the weather to click through the turnstyles. McNeill, Connelly, Macari and Murdoch missed out due to injury. The latter played in a reserve match against Hearts reserves the same day, resulting in a 2-2 scoreline.

Hearts took to the field in an Ajax style strip, and took the game to Celtic. The Hoops defence looked uncertain without McNeill and Connelly, which Ford took full advantage of to give Hearts an early lead.

Dalglish played a one two before lashing in an unstoppable shot to equalise for Celtic in the 40th minute. Though Ford restored Hearts’ advantage five minutes after the restart.

Hood found form and set up Johnstone for a neat goal, after Deans had equalised during a goalmouth scramble. Hood then scored a glorious goal to finish it off after calmly guiding in a Johnstone cross.
