Celtic fans have held an anti-establishment, anti-imperialist, left leaning position since time immemorial. In the Brake Club days of the late 1800s, supporters were known to carry Trade Unionist banners, they sang patriotic Irish Nationalist ballads about the struggles for Home Rule and the Republican efforts of the Fenians in previous campaigns. Our history as a club and as people gives us an anti-colonial mindset for obvious reasons. Meanwhile, charity and helping the poor is at the heart of our DNA.
Therefore, it is none too surprising that Celtic fans, in general, have little time for the class system of hereditary privilege which perpetuates inequality and was built upon empire.
The Coronation means one thing in Celtic circles, a time when Celtic won the Coronation Cup in 1953, becoming champions of Britain for the third time in as many British cup tournaments (Exhibition Cup 1902 and Empire Exhibition Trophy 1938 being the other triumphs).
