Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has talked up the prospect of Celtic joining the English Premier League. In conversation with Graeme Souness, the Talksport host discussed the idea of Glasgow’s ‘big two’ swapping the Scottish game for the riches of England.
It has been discussed for a number of years but the chance is likely to have gone. As Jordan acknowledges, why would turkeys vote for Christmas and offer another pair of mouths a place at their table of riches. The chasm between the teams grows with each season due to the extravagant television deals that allows small teams to bank over £100m for a poor season. Meanwhile, Celtic need to rely on European qualification to move bring in any figures of note.
It is unlikely that Celtic and Rangers would go down to England anytime soon and it will probably need to wait until the Premier League bubble (in its current form) bursts somewhat before it is considered again. The fanciful idea from Souness that a shared ground between Celtic and Rangers could be considered is verging upon madness. Although, it is unlikely to happen, it would be interesting if it returned to the agenda again.
