Chris Sutton was spot on in his assessment of Celtic’s defeat to FC Midtjylland tonight. Despite leading through a screamer from Callum McGregor, Celtic conceded to take the game to extra time before the Danes went ahead. Sutton said that the blame could not be pinned on new boss Ange Postecoglou, who inherited an awful mess from his predecessor, Neil Lennon.

“There’s no doubt it was embarrassing for Celtic to go out of the Champions League at this stage. I think we all know the reasons for it. The manager has been dealt an awful hand” 🗣️ pic.twitter.com/pJ79Y8ilOW

The blame, as Sutton rightfully pointed out, was with the Board. Celtic knew back in January that there would be this game coming and despite having months to prepare, Celtic went into the game with a backline that wouldn’t look out of place for Kilmarnock.

The manager should have taken Edouard off as he was absolutely non existent no effort or commitment was shown but was allowed to stay on.
