Tommy McIntyre was delighted with his young side’s resilience in yesterday’s 4-2 win over Broomhill in the Southern League. Celtic B took a two nil advantage into the dressing room at half time after both Frankie Deane and Joey Dawson four the back of the net in the first 45 minutes.
However 2-0 can be a deceivingly precarious scoreline for any side, if the next goal goes to the opposition then the initiative swings to the side now chasing an equaliser. That’s exactly what happened yesterday when Gray pulled one back for the visitors after 54 minutes and Broomhill then committed everything they had to attack, levelling the match on 72 minutes when Devenny found the back of the Celtic net.
However the Celtic manager was delighted with the way his young side responded to these set-backs and instead of folding completely, conceding again and going down to anther defeat to add to the Spartans smash and grab job from midweek, the young Hoops mould plenty of resolve and composure to restore their lead with a third Celtic goal of the afternoon when a long range effort from Ben Summers delightfully found the back of the Broomhill net then in the closing stages Lewis Dobbie secured the points with a fourth Celtic goal of an eventful afternoon at the Penny Cars Stadium.
With so many of the B team regulars away on international duty McIntyre had to dip into the younger age groups at the Celtic Academy and yesterday’s four different goalscorers were all just 18 years of age or under. A reminder of yesterday’s team line-up is below.
