‘Viva Las Brigadas Internacionales!’ – Green Brigade Appeal set to smash £10k, and it’s only just started

THE GREEN BRIGADE’S Football Against Fascism Fund Raising Appeal (#footballagainstfascism) is set to smash through the £10,000 revised target this morning. The Celtic supporters group are raising funds for two charities in Rome and Glasgow. Here’s how the Green Brigade described the two groups that this money will be used to help.

“Since 2015, Baobab Experience have supported more than 85,000 asylum seekers in Rome. They offer food, clothing and accommodation services to ensure that people’s most basic needs are fulfilled. They also provide legal assistance and physical and mental healthcare.

“Closer to home, Scottish Action for Refugees is a charity that supports refugees in Scotland as well as coordinates international efforts. Specifically in Glasgow, they have created a SAFR Space which is a community hub offering help and support for refugees and asylum seekers with the practical aspects of setting up a new life in a strange country.”

The target started at £5000 when the Appeal was launched yesterday, was raised to £7500 and when that was smashed too it went up to £10,000 – at 7.50am this morning, the total had reached £9414 with 669 donors to date.

The comments section on the Green Brigade’s Gofundme page reveal that this money is coming in from football supporters across the world, not just Celtic supporters, but like-minded anti-fascist football fans, regardless of which team they support themselves and which country they are from.

Therefore this appeal could be the biggest yet from the Green Brigade and may even beat the astonishing total reached for their Palestinian Match the Fine Protest. Let’s hope so.
