VAR is in its infancy in Scotland but the belief that its arrival would reduce the talking points from decisions is fanciful. This evening, there has been yet another questionable decision as Jota looked to double Celtic’s lead with an excellent goal.

Celtic thought they had made it 2-0 through Jota. Abada’s backheel found the Japanese striker, who fired a crossfield pass to the path of Jota. The player ran through, debated his strike before lifting the ball over Liam Kelly as the ball nestled into the net. It was a stunning goal but the replays were extremely tight. The camera angle wasn’t afforded to supporters to clearly see the offside, as is the case in European competitions.
Willie Collum deferred to his VAR colleague, David Dickinson, who said that the goal was offside. The angles offered made it no clearer.
