“We were electric going forward,” Brendan Rodgers, “We beat Ross County 6-0,” Philippe Clement

Brendan Rodgers summed up the afternoon at Celtic Park yesterday perfectly well, indeed he summed the game up accurately.

That’s a remark that’s only relevant because of the shambles of a manager that Philippe Clement has become. His own assessment of the game from theRangers perspective was actually more embarrassing than his team’s performance.

And the only person that the Belgian Waffler is now fooling is himself, as the scenes outside Ibrox later on yesterday afternoon demonstrated. Telling the support that the 6-0 win over Ross County was their best win in four years, claiming that the two early chances, that were offside, somehow counted as meaningful, just about everything he said made things worse for himself.

There is very little support for Clement who already started talking about things being differently in January. That’s a long way off but if he does make it that far – and that is now highly doubtful – then a failure to win his first ever match against Celtic will surely signal the end. It’s actually remarkable that the Ibrox Board rewarded him with a contract extension just a few weeks ago.

Compare and contrast with an elite and successful football manager…

Here’s what Brendan Rodgers was saying after his side’s 3-0 win over theRangers as Celtic Park yesterday afternoon.

“Firstly, defensively we were very strong right until the end. In the first ten minutes, we were a fraction passive in our positioning to put pressure on the ball but after that we were okay. In the moments we had to defend, we defended well.

“I thought offensively we were so exciting going forward. We scored three great goals and had a goal that was disallowed. That one was actually brilliantly worked with our build-up play getting through and it looked so, so tight and that would have been a fantastic goal for us.

“We had other opportunities in the game. The speed in our game and how we attacked the space was exceptional. We got three and maybe could have had a few more.

“We want to make it very difficult for the opposition and the crowd played their part as well. Overall, it was a fantastic result and performance.”
