Welcome to Celtic Elena Sadiku…
Celtic FC Women yesterday appointed Elena Sadiku as first team manager. The 30 year old Swede replaces Fran Alonso who left the club last month.
Elena joins from English woman’s super league side Everton where she was head coach of the academy side. She has a wealth of experience in the game as both a player and coach and her experience will be valuable as the club aim to win yet more honours this season.
Elenas playing career sadly ended at the age of 23. A career which seen her play for sides like FC Rosengard, Kristianstad DFF, Eskilstuna, Untied, and Hammarby IF, While she also represented Sweden at international level.
Elena put that disappointment behind her and continued her career in the game in a coaching capacity. She has gained a wealth of experience as an assistant coach at Beijing BG Phoenix, FC Rosengard, and Fortuna Hjorring, while also having a year stint as the head coach at Eskilstuna United DFF.
Elena has spent the last year at Everton and has more than earned her chance of managing Celtic. Fran Alonso will certainly be a hard act to follow, but the club should be applauded for appointing a young ambitious manager to replace him.
Welcome to Celtic Elena, I’m sure you will be a success. Here’s the squad you’ll be taking on Monday morning as they trained at Barrowfield on Friday morning ahead of Sunday’s match against Montrose. Watch carefully at the start, is that Elena walking onto the pitch to get her first look at the Ghirls in action?
Just an Ordinary Bhoy
