Jack Hendry was sold to Oostende earlier today as the Belgian side took up their option-to-buy on the 26-year-old with Celtic netting a transfer fee in return. However, the Daily Mail are reporting that West Brom are looking to sign Hendry for £5m as the Belgian club eye an immediate profit on the Scotland Internationalist.
Hendry had apparent disagreements with teammates at Oostende and this lead to Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur suggesting Hendry didn’t get along with some of his teammates at Oostende but a deal could still be done.
Although, Celtic confirmed the deal earlier on and that the club will have taken around £1.5m for the ex-Dundee central defender. But if West Brom seal a deal, Celtic would expect to have a sell-on fee for the player that they signed in January 2018.
New Baggies boss Valerien Ismael is an admirer of Hendry and is believed to have been keen on signing Hendry last summer for Barnsley. The spell in Oostende helped raise Hendry’s profile after a bruising couple of years at Celtic.
Celtic tend to have 20% of a sell-on of the profit, meaning that they could net £700k for Hendry just a few days after sending him back to Belgium. So they could stand to bump Hendry’s fee back to what they paid Dundee back in 2018 for the player that made just 27 appearances in Green and White.
