West Brom fans are clamouring for their club to sign Mikey Johnston on a permanent deal after he scored a brilliant goal against Plymouth this evening. The 24-year-old moved to the EFL Championship side on a loan deal until the end of the season to get his game time up and it is clear that he is having the desired impact.

West Brom fans are full of praise for Johnston, who netted his second of his spell, with a brilliant goal, cutting in from the left and smashing the ball into the net. Now, fans on Twitter/X are asking that the Championship side sign up the Celtic Academy product.

The frustrating thing for Celtic fans that see posts like this is that there are no doubts that the player is talented and has that mercurial flair that makes things happen. With that said, Neil Lennon, Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers have all commented on the player’s attitude in training.

In 92 appearances for Celtic, Johnston had scored 13 goals and assisted on 12 occasions. Frustrating is probably a word that will resonate with Celtic fans when discussing Johnston. Perhaps unfairly, the Irishman receives stick because he’s not really kicked on and he is a homegrown talent.

Hopefully the move is a success for Johnston and he can return to the Scottish Champions in a more competitive state. He is obviously a talented player but needs to be playing week in, week out to develop.
