The Green Brigade are back, and what a difference they made…
The Green Brigade made their long awaited return to the North Curve yesterday, and you couldn’t help but admire the huge difference they and The Celtic Bhoys at the other end of the ground made.
It’s been obvious to anyone that the atmosphere has been a bit flat in the absence of these two sets of Celtic Ultras, and whatever your opinion on them, you have to admit they bring an extra dimension to Paradise.
They bring colour and noise, they bring passion and it rubs off on the entire ground. Everyone had an extra spring in their step from kick off yesterday, and despite the terrible conditions everyone seemed more happier than recent weeks.
Despite a few boos at half time, which was out of order in my opinion, there was still belief that we would get the three points. That proved to be the case as the team were cheered on as loudly at the restart as they were at kick off.
It got even louder as we made the breakthrough a minute later. It jumped up a notch when we added a second and it remained that way until full time. It was a pleasing and pleasant change.
I’m not saying that The Green Brigade are responsible for the side returning to winning ways, but they along with the rest of the crowd helped by spurring the players on.
It makes a difference, getting behind the players and creating a cauldron of noise. No moans and groans. It’s much better than the eerie silence we’ve endured the last couple of months. The North Curve are back, and hopefully will never be banished again.
Just an Ordinary Bhoy
Can you please explain how the almost constant singing of pro-IRA ditties “encourages” the team? The Green Brigade has not changed its spots; it is not to be trusted and it’s only a matter of time before the next outbreak of unacceptable behaviour.
Celtic Park was rocking with a united front of players, managers, fans and (hopefully) high heid yins.
Merry Christmas, although it sounds like yours may have been ruined.
