What the remarkable Ligue 1 relegation ruling could mean for Celtic and the Scottish Premiership

It’s always uneasy when football matters are decided in the courtroom rather than on the pitch, and it’s likely we will see a lot of legal cases being launched in the next few months.

Both Ligue 1 and the Scottish Premiership voted to end their seasons due to the Coronavirus outbreak, and it meant that the current standings would be used to decide league titles and relegation.

That means Celtic and PSG were both crowned as champions, and it’s important to point out that there should be no change there.

We’ve seen over here that Hearts are doing their best to claim the crown of Scotland’s most embarrassing football club, but this ruling from France means that could rumble on even further:

It certainly sounds like this won’t be the end of this as the league and the French FA will launch further proceedings to ensure the original decisions stands.

What this does mean for us is that Hearts will inevitably point to this as a further example of why they shouldn’t be sent down, despite what the league table says.

Thankfully nothing will change from a Celtic point of view, but it’s likely the Rangers will attempt to use this to further their own agenda in some way.
