Why Celtic are considering a move for Aaron Mooy

Aaron Mooy continues to be linked with a Celtic move. The 31-year-old is said to be in Scotland with his wife as he ponders his next steps following his departure from Chinese club Shanghai Port.

Ange Postecoglou remained coy over the links with the Australian Internationalist but you know that behind the scenes, the manager is considering his next move in the transfer window.

The central midfielder spent time with St Mirren before returning to Australia. This move to his homeland allowed him time to improve before a move to Manchester City. Despite never featuring for the English club, he impressed on loan at Huddersfield, before making the move permanent. He then moved to Brighton for £12m following The Terriers’ relegation. Not only can Mooy play in the advanced role, vacated by compatriot Tom Rogic, he can also play in a holding role. This was his primary role with Brighton, often breaking up play and getting his team up the park whether by dribbling or passing.

YouTube is often the go-to for clips and compilations of players that we do not know a great deal about. However, for a player like Mooy, who most are familiar with given his time in England, it is useful to see just how good he is.

The player was commanding a salary in the region of $3m in China, a colossal take home for the midfielder. Although, he would be able to arrive without any fee being paid. This would potentially appeal to Michael Nicholson, Celtic

With Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton leaving, the dressing room has been dealt a blow with regards to experience. They leave a void of both quality and character that the manager will know that he needs to replace. Who better to do that than Mooy, who he utilised so efficiently for Australia.

It will be interesting to see if Celtic make a move for Mooy with the league season a couple of weeks away.
