Why Celtic could actually host both legs of UWCL play-off against FC Vorskla Poltava

Celtic FC Women could actually play BOTH of their Round 2 UEFA Women’s Champions League games at home after drawing Ukrainian champions FC Vorskla Poltava…

For the last two seasons, Poltava have been unable to play their European home games at their ground. Although they play their league games at the Oleksiy Butovskyi Vorskla Stadium, they faced Roma last season twice in Italy, and played Vllaznia twice in Albania the season before that. So, if this happens again this campaign, we could be in for TWO Champions League games in Glasgow rather than one.

This is due to the war going on in Ukraine. As recently as last week, the city of Poltava was the victim of a Russian missile strike, so this is looking like the more likely option for the two European ties with a place in the Champions League group stages at stake.

Fixture details will be confirmed in due course and our “away” game will be played first, on either the 18th or the 19th of September. The home leg will then be played on either the 25th or the 26th of September.

It’s important to note too that Celtic Park, the home of the Scottish champions, is not set to be played in between the 22 September and 19 October. If the home game could be moved to Paradise, that would undoubtedly be massive for women’s football in Scotland and I’m sure a large support would turn out to cheer on the Ghirls in green. Make it happen Celtic!

And in terms of finances, this could be a fantastic opportunity to get some money behind the Celtic FC Women’s team. If we manage to see of Poltava and make the group stages for the first time, we would be awarded, based on last season’s figures, €400,000.  That’s massive amount of money in the women’s game that could go far. If we manage to get a competitive group, then we could also add on to that with €50,000 for each win and €17,000 for each draw. If we were to then win the group, an additional €20,000 would be secured.

The UEFA Women’s Champions League is a brilliant chance for Celtic FC Women to grow even more and with Elena Sadiku at the helm, the sky is truly the limit.

Meanwhile Celtic deadline day signing Luke McCowan spoke to The Celtic Star and other fan media sites at Celtic Park this afternoon. Here’s everything that was said…

“with Elena Sadiku at the helm, the sky is truly the limit. ” if you believe that then your as delusional as she is , we will win nothing with her at the helm , we are regressing not progressing under her , i would love to be wrong but the signs are there for all to see , Hail hail .

Completely disagree. I think she is a fantastic coach making fantastic signings. Each to their own but I truly do believe that.
