Yesterday showed us that Celtic still need to strengthen the goalkeeping position

It’s not a secret that we are lacking quality in the goalkeeping position. Joe Hart has been superb for the club and still has the talent to compete at the top level, but he’s starting to look a bit shaky recently. I don’t know if that’s to do with the recent criticism or not, but it’s plainly evident to see. It’s a bit worrying with a long campaign ahead.

We’ve been giving Joe the benefit of the doubt for a while now, but his performances seem to be wilting a bit as time goes by.

Yesterday proved that on more than a few occasions. He nearly cost us dearly with a moment of bad judgement when he nearly cost us a spot kick. Why he didn’t head the ball is anyone’s guess. His decision to try and control the ball with his feet was baffling, he’s lucky it didn’t cost us in the end.

At the first Ross County goal he didn’t look to comfortable either. It was a bad day for Joe, and sadly that’s something that seems to be happening regularly these days.

Joe has been a brilliant keeper for Celtic, his saves have contributed massively to our success the past couple of seasons, and his efforts have been appreciated.

I just think it’s time we brought in another goalkeeper. One that is quality. Not a bench warmer like Ben Siegrest or Scott Bain. We need someone who can take over the number one position or at the very least push Joe with serious competition.

I have a feeling Brendan Rodgers is looking for a new goalkeeper. It’s a position that needs freshened up that’s for sure.

Sadly, correct about Joe.He seems really jittery at the moment. We couldn’t play in the CL with a goalkeeper seemingly low in confidence.Don’t know what is wrong with Benj,he has bulked up but was always a star performer when he played against us and seemed slimmer and fitter.

  2. Yes joe needs to fight for position he knows theres nobody threating his position so need to spend for a specailist postion some one that believes he deserves to be in team. Against ross county it showed two claring things that need sorted now nit just for europe but for spl goalkeeper first goal goal keeper has to wipe out antmybody empedeing him at free kicks and cross balls into 6yd box and he was inches away from giving penalty away and leaving his team a man short .The other is full backs taylor passes back to much putting pressure on cb and goalkeeper second goal played man on side then gave him to much room and his forward passing 50 50 one good one bad hud crossing worst

He was also playing behind a back 4 that hasn’t played together before which doesn’t help any goalie at at level.
