“You can tell there’s that camaraderie,” AJ on Kuhn settling in nicely at Celtic

Alistair Johnston thinks that Nicolas Kuhn has done a good job at integrating himself into the Celtic squad, describing him as a “good lad”.

“He’s actually a reasonably quiet person,” Johnston said, as reported by Daily Record. “But he likes to have a good laugh and he’s a good lad. He likes to be a part of it.

“He’s got a great little relationship with a couple of guys, Yang as well. It’s funny trying to see them two communicate in their broken English. But it’s stuff like that that you do like to see and it does make a difference on the pitch. And you can see it when one guy scores, they’re doing a celebration for the other guy, things like that.

“You can tell there’s that camaraderie and playing for each other, and that’s what you need at a big club like this because there are going to be difficult moments and you need to have that trust and that belief that you can rely on whoever’s out there.”

Joining Celtic in January, Kuhn managed 14 appearances last season, finding the net twice and assisting twice.

Kuhn seemed like a promising player but the supporters were expecting more. Safe to say that this season, the German has given them what they wanted.

Starting both competitive games so far, Kuhn opened his account for the campaign with Celtic’s third goal against Kilmarnock. With just three minutes on the clock, he opened the scoring against Hibs at Easter Road. He went on to assist Callum McGregor’s stunner, returning to Glasgow with another goal and assist to his name.

“I think he’s definitely more comfortable now in his role,” Johnston explained. “He’s understanding and he’s finding that confidence. We’re putting him in a better position to be the player that he is and to understand that we signed him for what he brings to the game. He’s not afraid to show that.”

And the Celtic full-back can identify Kuhn’s best areas of his game. Johnston points out his “directness” and “confidence on the ball”, praising him for being “a nightmare to defend against”.

He added: “I think he’s really now picking up on the winger cues in terms of getting in at the back post, reading those kind of moments. He’s really kicked on and I think that will be a big level that he’s going to show this entire year.”
