Young Boys Sporting Director Christoph Spycher has admitted that Fabian Rieder is likely to leave the Swiss club this summer. The 21-year-old Swiss Internationalist is reportedly a target for Brendan Rodgers as he looks to prepare his side for the new forthcoming season.

As reported by Football Scotland, Spycher believes that the young talent will make a move from Bern in the not-too-distant future as the Scottish Champions are cited as having an interest in the player.

“Fabian Rieder and I have come a long way together and we maintain a trusting working relationship.

“I know Fabian will make the right decision for himself when it comes to it. Sometimes patience is required in such cases.

“But I am convinced that his future will be abroad in the short or medium term. He has the quality to play in a top league. I’m 100 per cent sure of that.”

In 116 appearances, Rieder has 14 goals and 23 assists to his name along with two Swiss Super League titles and a Swiss Cup. There are strong rumours that Celtic are keen on bringing Rieder to Celtic Park and would be prepared to break their transfer record to fend off interest from Germany in the attacking midfielder. RB Leipzig are noted as having an interest in the player and it is the usual step for Swiss talent to head for the Bundesliga but the opportunity to play under Brendan Rodgers and in UEFA Champions League Group Stage, without the hassle of the play-offs, may appeal to Rieder.

Celtic have already signed Odin Thiago Holm and Marco Tilio as Rodgers looks to reshape under his leadership. The Irishman will not be able to utilise Aaron Mooy, who retired last week, and it appears that Portuguese winger Jota will be the next to exit the club with a €30m deal to Al Ittihad nearing completion.
