There are a lot of things that need to be taken into account when appointing the next Celtic manager, but it’s particularly important to get someone who’s here for the right reasons.
Ultimately that means being prepared to actually build the club back up and impose a culture over a long period of time rather than trying to quickly rebuild a reputation and jumping at the first Premier League offer that comes up.
HITC have confirmed that Chris Wilder has been heavily linked with the Celtic job, but it’s thought that he wants to stay in the Premier League and that now looks likely as several options open up.

The most likely option would be Burnley as they are preparing for Sean Dyche to finally move on this summer, while Crystal Palace, Newcastle and West Brom could also be on the lookout for a new manager as well.
It’s suggested that Wilder would be interested in these roles and it will make it harder for Celtic to land him, so ultimately it looks like he can be ruled out of the race to replace Neil Lennon.
It could simply be the case that he’s suited to a certain type of job where he needs to be an underdog who just want to stay in the division or become a mid-table side, so perhaps he’s not the right man for Celtic anyway.
It’s not clear if the links were ever serious or if it was just an easy way to keep his name in the press, but it looks like he’ll be staying down south next season.
