Cameron Carter-Vickers and Maik Nawrocki out for two months. Getting an experienced centre back in is now a must…
Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that CCV and Maik Nawrocki are out for two months with injury. With Stephen Welsh also out of action for a few months it’s now imperative we get an experienced centre back in, even if it’s only a loan deal.
With a tough trip to Ibrox on the horizon and the Champions League looming it’s a necessity we get someone in. It can’t be ignored.
Gustav Lagerbielke as it stands is our only fit centre back and he’s just in the door. Of course Yuki Kobayashi and Liam Scales are also there, but doubts remain over Kobayashi’s suitability and Scales doesn’t look like he’s in Brendan’s plans, at least he wasn’t until the manager lost three of his four central defenders in a week.
I’d be astonished if Brendan wasn’t currently looking at an experienced centre back to bring in. Even if it’s a free agent or a loan deal. We have too much to lose to gamble on the bodies we have left in that area. They quite honestly aren’t up to the job we have ahead of us.
Time is ticking on the transfer window and we are already two or three players short in other departments. Brendan can now add an extra player to that list. A centre back is now top priority.
Watch out for Alistair Johnston stepping into central defence as emergency cover it’s a position he is well used to and one that he has played at International level with Canada.
