Liam Scales might not be ready to play for Celtic, according to Ange Postecoglou but the left sided defender, a £600,000 signing from Shamrock Rovers in August, has today been called up to the Irish national squad as a replacement for Swansea defender Ryan Manning who has withdrawn from the Irish squad due to injury.
So Liam Scales is now in the Irish squad for the forthcoming matches against Azerbaijan and Qatar. Scales was also a late call-up for the last round of internationals last month and he has plenty of experience at Under 21 level for Ireland.
He came on to make his debit for Celtic in the closing stages of the league Cup win over Raith Rovers with the Kirkcaldy side already 3-0 down and also down to ten men. Scales looked sharp, very quick and his passing was excellent, with many Celtic fans hoping that he’d have had his chance either as a left sided central defender or as a left back in the recent games against Leverkusen and Aberdeen.
That didn’t happen but hopefully Scales will get the chance to make his full Celtic debit after this international break, hopefully he’ll get some game-time with Ireland before that.
