Well it’s time to say our goodbyes to Carl Starfelt and there’s no doubt in my mind that the Sweden international defender was a success at Celtic, despite what some of his critics might say.
Our Swedish centre-back Carl Starfelt today agreed a deal to sign for La Liga side Celta Vigo, as reported earlier on The Celtic Star.
Carl signed for £4.5 million back in 2021 from Russian side Rubin Kazan. He was one of the first signings of the Ange Postecoglou era and despite a sticky start he became an important part of our success as he formed a solid partnership at the back with Cameron Carter-Vickers.
That didn’t stop Carl from being the victim of sustained criticism from a section of our support and it was unfair in my humble opinion.

Starfelt was very reliable at his job. He was a superb reader of the game and he was often under-rated and under appreciated while at Celtic, which was a shame. He deserved so much more.
Cameron Carter-Vickers took the plaudits and rightly so as he’s a superb defender, definitely the best at the club, but Carl Starfelt more than did his bit and contributed massively alongside CCV. Simply put, they were a superb partnership, the best in the Scottish Premiership by a country mile.
So it’s sad to see Carl Starfelt depart but he can leave knowing he more than played his part in our recent success and leaves with five winners medals in his pocket after playing for Celtic for two seasons.
All the best Carl and best wishes for the future to both yourself and Jacynta.
