Fran Alonso speaks after the latest SWPL 1 match at The Fountain of Youth Stadium against Hamilton which ended in a 6-0 win for his Celtic FC Women side…

Six goals scored and a clean sheet For Celtic FC Women yesterday away to Hamilton in the SWPL1 title race, Fran Alonso must have been pleased?

“I am, I think we played very well, especially for the first 70-75 minutes we had total control, we had the ball all the time, the decision making was very good with so many efforts on goal. Maybe the final ball, we missed so many goals but it’s good. It’s not an easy team to break down, they are always good defensively and they don’t leave many gaps between the lines but today we were very clever and I am delighted with the performance,” Fran said.

Celtic scored six and maybe should have doubled that score such was the dominance in this match which we watched via the Accies PPV at a cost of £4. No commentary, no close-ups or replays, just the one camera following the play. We even got the camera man taking a towel to clear his screen at one stage!

The SWPL1 has turned into the usual suspects – Glasgow City, Celtic and theRangers – pulling away and fighting for the title. Celtic’s 2-2 draw with City are the only points dropped so theRangers, non-surprisingly with the easier start to the fixture list are two points clear but still have to play both Celtic and Glasgow City this season.

Alonso might end up rueing so many missed chances as happened yesterday, with at least three looking easier to score than miss!

Firstly here’s the Hamilton manager Gary Doctor speaking about the 6-0 home defeat to Celtic yesterday…

“It’s very important,” Alonso admitted. “I said a couple of weeks ago (to The Celtic Star) that we lost many goalscorers from last season. For me that fact that many girls are scoring is very important. We can get goals from everywhere on the pitch, not just strikers but centre-mids, centre-backs.

“Today finally we scored from two set-plays which is something that previously the delivery wasn’t quite right and now it looks like we getting the delivery right and when then have a chance because we are very good in the air.

“So it is a very good day for us and we stay right up at the top but it is still easy days and the important thing is today is the 19th game unbeaten, carrying on from last year and that makes us a very strong team, especially mentally and we’ll keep on working an we’ll go again on Sunday.

Celtic are at home to Spartans on Sunday at the Penny Cars Stadium in Airdrie. Looking forward to heading along there to support the team. COYGIG.
