Celtic’s summer recruitment drive is well underway and as you’ll undoubtedly know by now, the latest name linked is Napoli’s promising young forward Giuseppe Ambrosino, who has caught the eye after a string of progressive loan spells and a standout summer with Italy’s Under-21s.

According to reports from SportMediaSet in Italy, Celtic are keeping tabs on the 21-year-old striker as they continue to look to strengthen key areas of the squad ahead of the new season.

Ambrosino is no stranger to a temporary move, having spent last season with Frosinone in Serie B, where he registered five goals and four assists in 36 appearances – an unspectacular but steady return in a physically demanding league that often challenges young attackers.

But it’s not just his club form that’s sparked interest. Ambrosino was part of Italy’s squad at this summer’s UEFA Under-21 European Championships, where he made a notable impression.

Despite Italy exiting earlier than expected, the Napoli striker caught the eye with his work rate, technical ability, and a sublime free-kick in the group stage clash against Germany – a curling effort from distance. It was a rare highlight in a tough campaign for the Azzurrini, but one that showcased Ambrosino’s undoubted potential.

His path to this point has been one of gradual development. After emerging from Napoli’s youth ranks, the forward enjoyed earlier loan spells with Como and Cittadella, both in Serie B, where he gained crucial experience. While not prolific during those stints, his intelligence in linking play and his ability to drift into space marked him out as one for the future.

There’s no doubt Celtic can offer a platform that Napoli, with its stacked attacking depth, simply cannot guarantee right now.

From a financial and footballing standpoint, an initial loan move might be the most pragmatic approach. It allows Celtic to assess how Ambrosino adapts to Scottish football and life in Glasgow while providing the player a chance to shine on Europe’s biggest stage. If he settles and performs, a permanent deal could be negotiated down the line – potentially following a structure similar to the deal for Jota or Paulo Bernardo.

The question now is whether that future lies in Italy or abroad. Reports suggest Ambrosino has been keen to remain in his homeland, with several Serie B and lower-end Serie A clubs monitoring his availability. However, Celtic’s lure of Champions League football may offer an altogether different appeal.

And Anthony Joseph at Sky Sports reports that the player is actually keen on the move to Celtic, see comments above regarding the appeal of playing in the Champions League.
