LEIGH GRIFFITHS was featured in on the BBC Scotland’s sports bulletin this morning. The Celtic striker has apologised for throwing the sticky tape in the direction of the Rugby Park bin bag and Killie’s raging, ageing one man Ultra section, Uncle Albert.
“I was getting a bit of abuse and I shouldn’t have thrown the tape. It was stupid of me,” said Griffiths, according to BBC Scotland.
“But it’s water under the bridge now. I am trying to keep my head up and look forward.
“Any player that gets stick, it is hard to block it out. It was so close to the bench, the tape was in my hand, and it was just a quick reaction.
“But I want to apologise to the guy. It wasn’t nice and I wouldn’t like it done to me. I want to apologise and draw a line under it.”
BBC Scotland were of course widely criticised for their analysis of the Kilmarnock v Celtic game, when the former Rangers striker Steven Thompson focused on the sticky tape throwing as some kind of crime of the century while completely ignoring the lunge on Jeremie Frimpong from Kilmarnock hardpan Alan Power which resulted in the Celtic wing-back being carried off on a stretcher.
It looked like a serious injury at the time, although Neil Lennon initially attempted to talk down the severity but since then he has become more cautious, yesterday admitting that he was still unsure as more test results were due back.
Anyway now that Leigh Griffiths has made a public apology for throwing the sticky tape maybe Kilmarnock will address the abuse their loud mouthed, angry pensioner was hurling at the Celtic striker? Or is that okay?
