Marian Shved has told Mechelen that he wants to stay with the Belgium side next season rather than return to Celtic. The Ukrainian winger, a project signing from Celtic DIY DoF Peter Lawwell just before Brendan Rodgers emitted his desk at Lennoxtown, after difficult start has had a successful loan spell at Mechelen and it appears that he’s in no rush to give that up to return to a much more uncertain situation at Celtic.
Accordingly Mechelen manager Wouter Vrancken has confirmed that his club will make another approach to Celtic next week to expend Shved’s loan for another season – the Belgian side have previously admitted that they are not in a financial position to buy the 23 year old winger. Vrancken previously revealed that he has struggled to get an answer from Celtic because of their managerial void. But the Mechelen boss is set to try again next week.
“We have two loan players – Marian Shved and Ferdy Druijf – who have told us that they want to stay here next season too,” Scottish Sun reports. “So we have to see what Celtic and AZ say about it and try to come to an agreement with them. We are hoping to have some news about them both in the coming days.”
Shved reacted positively to the criticism directed at him by Vrancken and has subsequently turned his fortunes around for Mechelen, and last month admitted that he’d like to stay at the club. “When the manager gave that interview, he said some pretty harsh things about me. That changed my mentality entirely. It motivated me and suddenly I was determined to make an impact here.
“I trained harder and gained the confidence of the coach. The more playing minutes I got, the smoother the integration went. I felt the respect of my teammates increase,” the on-loan Celt said. “Ukrainians sometimes lack self-confidence and young Ukrainian players like me are sensitive, emotional and easily offended.

“Back home, people come to pat you on the back and ask how it’s going when they see that something is wrong. That does not happen here. But it was up to me to adjust and I have. It’s not how you start the season, it’s how you end it that counts,” Shved added.
Wouter Vrancken and Marian Shved might have to wait until the new Celtic manager is appointed before they get an answer one way or the other. The good news for the pair is that they shouldn’t have to wait much longer.
