MOUSSA DEMBELE is in line for a start in Athens tomorrow night as Celtic needs goals to stay in the Champions League.
Celtic’s early season form, with Moussa upfront alongside his fellow countryman Osdonne Edouard is hopefully set to resume in the second leg of the Champions League Qualifier, 3rd round. With the tie currently at 1-1 draw the game in Glasgow a goalless draw is enough to see the home side progress to face either Malmo or Vici from Hungary in the fourth round of the Champions League qualifiers.
Belgian bad boy Dedryck Boyata did to travel after his disgraceful behaviour at the weekend effectively ended his Celtic career – see HERE and HERE.
That situation as it emerged on Saturday – and Brendan Rodgers was obviously aware of it on Friday morning when the low-life agent gatecrashed the Celtic training session, will do little to calm things down between the manager and the Chief Executive, Peter Lawwell.
Lawwell had bid from Fulham and could have canvassed a higher offer on deadline day for the Belgian after initially knocking back £9million. It is believed that Fulham, had they been encouraged, would have paid £12million.
Now Boyata is either going to be sold on the cheap to Spain (Seville are interested) or Italy – the best Celtic can hope for is a few clubs enter and bid, thus pushing the price up, but it is unlikely in the extreme that the money Fulham were prepared to pay with be on the offer.
Apparent penny pinching on John McGinn to save £750,000 looks like costing Celtic many millions of pounds in what was a bad week for Lawwell.
Hopefully this week will be better and if there’s one man that can help make that happen it is Moussa Dembele.
