CELTIC have been linked this morning to a move for Charlton Athletic’s Alfie Doughty although there seems some confusion around this. Reports in the media describe the player as a midfielder and reckon that any bid for the player would have to be in excess of the £750k bid that Luton have recently had rejected for the player.

That probably puts Doughty in the £1m price bracket but it may be well short of the mark.

The story arrears to come from a tweet from journalist Alan Nixon who reported this:

“CELTIC. Taking major interest in Doughty at CHARLTON. Already been contact. Two top men watched yesterday, including Hammond.”

From the comments below it appears that Doughty is a left sided player who can play wing-back, left back or left winger.

Here’s a video of him in action with an impressive assist.

Over on the transfer thread on Kerrydale Street the valuation of £750-£1m appears to be well short of the mark.

“Appears he can pretty much play anywhere down the left hand side, Charlton fans love him. Played Swindon yesterday and even their fans are saying they’re not surprised we’re interested. Charlton fans saying they rejected a £2.5m bid for him from Fulham in January and think it’ll take £3m minimum to be able to buy him,” was a particular comment that stands out.

Celtic also remain interested in PSG left back Mitchel Bakker and are expected to revisit this with the French Champions this week after having an initial approach for a loan deal rejected.
