Today’s photo of the day is from an iconic moment.
24 April 1937 is a date that goes down in sporting history as an official attendance of 147, 365 people packed into Hampden Park for the Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen.
The attendance remains a world record for a domestic cup final, and a European record for any club match. Incredibly, the crowd was actually beaten at the stadium, for an international match between Scotland and England a week earlier, when 149, 415 people attended.

Celtic’s Jimmy Delaney played in both these matches, meaning he exhibited his talent to almost 300,000 in the space of a week; though in reality the actual attendances were much larger.
Celtic won the 1937 Scottish Cup Final by two goals to one.
The Hoops took the lead in the 12th minute when the legendary Johnny Crum scored after Willie Buchan’s shot was parried. Armstrong equalised for the Dons within 60 seconds but Buchan then gave Celtic victory with a neat finish after Jimmy McGrory set him up.
