We have been referring to Sandman’s Definitive Ratings after each game this season to determine who our Player of the Year will be. We have been adding up the marks awarded by Sandman after each game on a month to month basis, adding each new month featured to the ongoing scores.
This replaces the usual method of running a Poll on the site and asking you to vote. We reckoned you’d prefer to give that a miss this year and anyway this approach lets us consider how each and every player has done, there is no place to hide in this table Bhoys…
Today we look at both March and April combined, as there have been so few games, especially in March when we only played twice. A goalless draw at Tannadice meant that theRangers had won their first major trophy and a few weeks later they got a 1-1 draw at Celtic Park. That was March.
April’s opener was a Scottish Cup tie against Falkirk which saw the welcome return of James Forrest and a 3-0 win. This was followed by perhaps the best performance and result of the season – the bar was incredibly low so nothing to get too excited about. Jamesy also limped off injured, ominous for the next game at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup. So many chances were missed, they won 2-0 to complete a League and Scottish Cup Double (that’s how it works, right?). Edouard missed a penalty, on a day when Celtic could and should have won but lost by a couple of goals, one being yet another own goal against them.
Then Leigh Griffiths grabbed a later equaliser up at Pittodrie to complete the month.
We’ll park this now until the weekend when we’ll add Sandman’s ratings for the three matches played in May to conclude the season, name our Player of the Year and review the squad performance…it’s not going to be pretty.
Enjoy the games this evening, at least the Women’s game is meaningful.
Callum McGregor continues to lead with Kris Ajer ahead of Scott Brown at the top of the leaderboard. At the bottom end of the table James Forrest has overtaken Leigh Griffiths, despite being injured for most of the season.
