Former Celtic manager ‘agrees’ to become Man United manager, according to report

Former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers appears to be close to becoming the next Manchester United manager, according to a report. Rodgers, who is no stranger to leaving midway through a season, is said to have verbally agreed to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Norwegian struggles in his role at Old Trafford.

According to Caught Offside, United want the Irishman to replace Solskjaer but Rodgers is reluctant to leave Leicester at this stage of the season. United have lost six of their last twelve games and the hierarchy are working towards replacing the former United striker.

Rodgers was at the Celtic helm for two and a half years. The ex-Liverpool manager won seven trophies in a row, an Invincible Treble, a 69-game unbeaten run and numerous other successes before being replaced by Neil Lennon when he left for Leicester in February 2019. Supporters will likely recognise how impressive Rodgers’ time at the club was and a lot of people realised that there were issues at a boardroom level that lead to his departure, which was emphasised by the off-field mess of last season.

Rodgers has enjoyed success with Leicester, finishing fifth twice and winning an FA Cup but having been at Celtic and Liverpool, you would think he would want another move back to one of the largest football clubs in the UK. United have an excellent squad and you would think that Rodgers is their top target as manager given that they allowed Tottenham to hire Antonio Conte.

  1. While this is typical social media fiction, the facts are there and Rodgers will always go for more money. Not the bigger job, but certainly more money.
Every time a big vacancy arrises he says the exact same thing to try disguise his interest. “Why would I want to leave here?” “I am in my dream job here” “I have always been a Celtic fan”.
It’s his way of letting other clubs know he is always willing to jump ship.
To be fair not many managers would have taken such a massive step backwards going from Celtic to Leicester, but clearly the money was there.
Would he go to Manchester United? Yes, he would and has probably been instrumental in digging the present manager’s grave too. There is no doubt in my mind that he has already spoken to someone about this job while he will almost certainly deny it by saying as he always did. “Why would I want to leave here” “I am in my dream job here” “I have always been a Leicester fan”.

He uses this pitch to alert clubs looking for a change of manager and has tried desparately to alert Arsenal, Spurs twice now, Chelsea and even Barcelona.
He is only a fan of Brendan Rodgers.

Brendan Rodgers is obviously one of the best managers in Europe. Anyone who denies this is kidding themselves on, we were lucky to have had him for nearly 3 seasons. He would probably have stayed a little longer if Peter Lawell had supported him in the transfer market more, but was always destined to be lured to one of the bigger European Leagues. Good luck to him if he gets the Man Utd job he will need it, but I think he can be successful.

Absolutely humiliated by PSG, no success at all in Europe, Rangers presenting just a nascent challenge. Beaten by them at Ibrox nonetheless. Rogers may be popular but he is massively overrated as a manager. Brendan Rogers is absolutely about Brendan Rogers and to say WE were lucky to have HIM? Jock Stein he is not,
