Morgan in line for Scotland call-up, Forrest and Tierney unlikely to travel

LEWIS MORGAN could make his Scotland debut before he plays for Celtic. The Championship Player of the Year, who joined Celtic in January and was loaned back to St Mirren for the rest of the season, has attracted the attention of Scotland manager Alex McLeish.

McLeish is currently working on putting together a 26 man squad for next months friendlies away to Peru and Mexico, and depending on the availability of others, Morgan could find himself on the plane.

“I’ve heard a lot about Lewis Morgan. People were pushing him for our last couple of games. I need to have a really good look at him and see how he matures over the next year or so,” McLeish stated.

“He’s going to a bigger club at Celtic and when you are playing with better players it brings you on, so does playing for your country.

“The summer trip might be too soon for Lewis, but we’re still looking at things. You never know. It might depend if we have casualties when I come to name the squad.”

Celtic are likely to send Craig Gordon, Jack Hendry, Stuart Armstrong – if he is fit – and Leigh Griffiths on the Americas tour but are likely to resist attempts by McLeish to call up James Forrest and Kieran Tierney, who have played more first team football than any other players in Europe this season and need a break ahead of Celtic’s crucial Champions League qualifiers.

Callum McGregor may make the trip but much will depend on Brendan Rodgers’ view on him going.
