Celtic’s £5m summer signing Albian Ajeti this week told us that he is not a diver and now he’s told us what he is – a very good goalscorer. That’s probably the season he was signed but the Albanian born Swiss International feels he’s not really done himself justice in Scottish football yet. Ajeti promises that there is more to come from him. Much more.

Speaking to the Celtic View editor Paul Cuddihy, the Celtic striker talked about scoring goals and whether he’s happier playing as part of a front two or leading the line on his own. He doesn’t really care too much about that, he just wants to play.

“If I’m up front on my own, or it’s two strikers, it doesn’t matter. As long as we have success as a team, that’s all that matters,” Ajeti said, as reported by CelticFC.com. “I like to play up front with Odsonne. It gives me more time and gives us more presence in the box, which is good and important for us, and we do it quite well.”

The idea that the Scottish league would be easy is a notion the former FC Basel and West Ham striker never really bought into. “I knew it was a hard league (Scottish Premiership), a tough league with lots of fight. I would say it’s like English football – with a proper English mentality, which is good. I like that in football.

“As I said, it’s tough, it’s hard, it’s very intense and we’ve got the quality to play but also the quality to fight in games, and we’re prepared for any kind of games.

“I’m back, I’m fully fit now and I’m feeling good. We’re winning, so everything is going well at the moment.”

Ajeti though appreciates that the season has not gone well as a whole and that more is required from the players. Much more in fact. “I like the pressure, I like to feel that and I think all of us, if we know we have a bit of pressure, we just get stronger and perform better, and for a club like Celtic, this is normal,” the player said.

“There are players here who have been used to it for a few years now, and all the new players who come in get used to it as well.

“I had a problem with my fitness, and then injuries, so I didn’t play much. That’s part of football but, as I said, I’ve been back for the last few games now, I’m feeling good, we’re having success and this is what matters, and the goals will come again.”

Ajeti will be looking to start again tomorrow when Celtic play St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park, with a 12 noon kick-off. He’ll be looking for three points and also to find the back of the net himself.
