Liverpool defender Nat Phillips has agreed terms on a loan deal with Celtic, reports Anthony Joseph. The Sky Sports reporter adds: “It’s understood his situation will be reassessed in the January window. Phillips, 26, is joining the Scottish champions to help ease their centre-back injury crisis.”

This is great news, particularly with Sunday’s game at Ibrox fast approaching and with Celtic so weakened at centre back in recent weeks with three players all being injured the arrival of an experienced performer like Phillips will be news that is widely welcomed by the Celtic support.

And just like Cameron Carter-Vickers before him, Nat Phillips will have the chance to sample life at Celtic, which is set to include some mouth-watering nights of Champions League action, before deciding alongside Brendan Rodgers whether he’d like to hang around into 2024 and beyond.

He’ll have to do his talking on the pitch first and Sunday gives him a huge opportunity to hit the ground running and establish himself in the heart of the Celtic defence, probably playing alongside new signing Gustaf Lagerbielke.
