Magnificent Moi Elyounoussi and Celtic’s awesome Australian Tom Rogic star in Celtic TV’s Unique Angle video released today. Diplomatically the footage of the horror challenge of Jeremie Frimpong, who is now set for a period on the sidelines, is not included but the management team at Celtic must be as angry about that challenge and the referee’s outrageous decision not to show a red card as the entire Celtic support.

The extract from Matt Corr’s Invincible we published today illustrates perfectly that this is no one-off – Kieran Tierney being the unfortunate victim on that occasion. Indeed there is an argument that the lack of protection from referees was one of the reasons that Tierney decided to move to Arsenal. There was a period in the first half of The Scottish Cup Final against Motherwell in 2018 when Tierney was continually fouled by a succession of Motherwell players in what looked like a team strategy to kick the Celtic full-back, apparently with immunity.

Is Jeremie Frimpong destined for similar treatment? He has already had a period out injured this year after another disgraceful challenge – by Kilmarnock’s hardman Alan Power down at Rugby Park – and that was also deemed not to be a red card.

Frimpong is a stand-out young talent, just as Tierney was, but it seems that Scottish referees are reluctant to offer him any sort of protection from what could be career ending challenges.

When Ryan Christie was late with a challenge at Livingston last season Willie Collum couldn’t wait to pull the red card from his pocket. Few could argue with that call but how Andrew Dallas deemed yesterday’s horror challenge on Frimpong as nothing more than a yellow is completely baffling, if you dismiss any personal agendas.
