Transfer Latest – The Giorgos Giakoumakis Saudi Rumour

As mentioned earlier on The Celtic Star, there are rumours circulating that Giorgos Giakoumakis could be subject of interest from Saudi Arabia this coming January transfer window. The player has been in discussions with the Celtic heirarchy over a new and improved contact, but so far, no dice as of yet.

Currently under contract until 2026, there is no worrying from anyone regarding this recent discrepancy with contract negotiations; after all, that’s why they are called “negotiations”. So nobody at Celtic Park is worried at this stage and neither should the supporters.

That doesn’t mean however, that teams won’t be looking at Giakoumakis, regardless of his rejecting the new contract proposal on offer by Ange Postecoglou and Michael Nicholson. Scottish Sun reported this morning that the big Greek striker could be the subject of interest from the cash-rich Saudi Legaue and it might see a bid arrive come January.

The sticking point with this article though, is that they don’t name any sides and make a ridiculous quip about the climate being better. Well duh! Obviously the climate is better in the Middle East than it is here! At this moment in time it is all just conjecture and supposition, with no real empirical evidence of anyone bidding for Giorgos.

He’s under contract and if it isn’t resolved then Celtic will do business – but on their terms only. The figure being quoted of €6-7 million for his services by the Geek journalist last week was simply outrageous. The guy has scored in the UEFA Champions League group stage for goodness sake. That would maybe buy his bad foot!

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
