European Night Fever as Craig Gordon Hails the Griff

Craig Gordon has heaped praise upon Leigh Griffiths’ winner in the closing stages of Celtic’s Group B opener versus Rosenborg.

The striker, who last week signed a new four-year contract, pounced to nod Celtic into the lead after Dedryck Boyata headed the ball into his path.

Gordon, who was untroubled for most of the game, was full of praise for both the defender and substitute striker for their part in the goal.

“He got himself into a great position to get on the back of Dedryck’s knockdown,” the Celtic keeper said after the match.

“Dedryck did fantastically well too to get onto that and knock it into such a dangerous area. It was a great leap from him and then that is the type of striker that Leigh is.

“He gets into those situations and more often than not he puts them away.

“He is a goalscorer and he wants to play games. When he isn’t playing he isn’t happy and it is a difficult position.”

The ‘keeper was relieved more than impressed with his side’s victory that took Celtic level with Salzburg in Group B of the Europa League.

“It was important to get the three points, especially at home. It wasn’t our best performance but we have go the three points which was so vital.”

Griffiths has now staked his claim to be the main striker at Celtic – and last night 50 odd thousand all agreed with him!

Celtic face a tricky trip to Kilmarnock on Sunday with scoring goals a problem; unfortunately, there will be no solace from the fact that since Steve Clarke took over in Ayrshire, Celtic haven’t won and have scored just once in three matches.

However scoring will also be tough for Clarke’s side as Celtic have now gone 5 games without conceding – since Botaya returned to the side after his wee personal rebellion.

NIGHT FEVER!
