Celtic have played a part in the first managerial casualty in the English Premier League after it was confirmed that Julen Lopetegui had depart the club.
Wolves faced Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic in Dublin at the end of July as part of pre-season preparations; however, following the game, Lopetegui had decided he had had enough.
Lopetegui told the club that he intended to leave the Premier League side that he wishes to move on this summer due to a differing in opinion relating to transfer plans.
Speaking following the announcement of the former Real Madrid manager’s departure, Matt Hobbs – Sporting Director at Wolves – revealed how the Spaniard’s exit had come about.
“I had a conversation with Julen in the tunnel after the Celtic game. He was honest with his opinion and what he thought should happen. What was great was he was happy for us to take our time and interview other candidates and he was willing to wait until we found the right person, continuing to work and prepare the team properly.
“The way he and his staff worked during that period tells you everything you need to know about them. It’s allowed us time to go through a thorough process.”
Celtic were the better team during the match and should have left the Irish capital with a victory. Although Matt Doherty’s dive allowed a late equaliser from Wolves.
Wolves are clearly looking to tighten their belts after surviving the drop last season. Lopetegui was obviously expecting to be backed, especially given his status in the game.
Once again the Scottish press try to get Celtic players sold and cause unrest in the camp ,the bigotry within the Scottish press and radio is very evident and very sad
